40 Freunde, Künstler, Menschen, die mir auf Reisen im Laufe der letzten paar Jahre begegnet sind, habe ich eingeladen, je eine Arbeit im Format der Postkarte an meine Adresse in Wien oder an meine Adresse in Athen zu schicken. Beides sind Stationen, Adressen auf Zeit.

Die Nachricht von einem anderen Ort, einem Ort, der eben nicht hier ist, oder von einer Person, die abwesend bleibt, ist das zentrale Thema der Ausstellung. Frei nach Rimbaud greift die Ausstellung das Motiv des Schiffs ohne Mannschaft auf. Die Postkarte ist hier der Platzhalter, die verspätete Nachricht der abwesenden Crew.

" Auf steiler Welle/On steep waves// στην πλαγιά των κυμάτων " spricht zunächst von der persönlichsten aller Erfahrungen des Alleine-Reisens: der Einsamkeit. Ist es möglich, im Bewusstsein der eigenen Einsamkeit bereit und offen zu bleiben, die Nachricht eines anderen Menschen, eine Botschaft von einem anderen Ort zu empfangen? Wird die Erfahrung der Einsamkeit politisch in Zeiten politischer Unwägbarkeit?

Auf steiler Welle ist eine Wanderausstellung, die im Oktober 2011 in einem kleinen Apartment in Kerameikos – Metaxourgeio in Athen während des ReMap 3 Festivals gezeigt wurde. Von dort aus nimmt die Ausstellung die Reise auf. Die zweite Station der Ausstellung ist am 16. November 2011 in der fluc Bar in Wien, ein Abend im Rahmen der Vienna Art Week "Reflecting Reality - Wien und Psychoanalyse".

Anders als in einem Archiv ist hier die Ausstellung eine Sammlung die im Laufe der Reise erweitert und verändert wird - ein offenes Buch von etwa 40 Gedichten. Jede einzelne Postkarte bleibt sichtbar und bedeutsam als je einzelne Erzählung.

a postcard wandering exhibition

Friends, artists and people that I have met on journeys in the course of the last few years were invited to send me postcards to my temporary addresses, stations, in between Vienna and Athens. The message from another place, the place that is not present, or the person that is absent; that is the central theme of the exhibition. The title was chosen freely from a line of Arthur Rimbaud's 'Le Bateau Ivre (1871) in the German rendition of Paul Celan, out of which we are drawn to the image of the vessel in a turbulent sea as a metaphor for a journey with an open end, or for a permanent state of unrest.

"On steep waves/ Auf steiler Welle// στην πλαγιά των κυμάτων " relies at the same time on a very personal experience: solitude - and here poses the question if at this very junction of time it becomes political as well ? - upon awareness of one's loneliness, one is ready to receive a message, a message from far away, in times of utmost uncertainty.

"On steep waves/ Auf steiler Welle / στην πλαγιά των κυμάτων" is made as a wandering exhibition, which had its first station in a small apartment in Athens, Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio at the ReMap 3 Festival in October 2011. The second station will now be in Vienna on 16. of November 2011, a one evening show at the Fluc in Vienna, other stations are still open and in planning. The exhibition will change and grow in the course of this journey. Unlike the idea of an archive, the exhibit is more like a collection, an open book of about 40 poems where each message is visible to the beholder and holds a singular importance on its own.
