I don't understand why you claimed that Kuwait was primarily made-up of ''roaming tribes in the desert and tribes looking for pearls'' before the discovery of oil. <br /><br />A large sedentary population existed before the discovery of oil. The pre-oil sedentary population was sedentary for several centuries, thus there are many cultural differences between the sedentary population and Bedouins. There are even major political differences, the majority of Bedouins are Islamists and conservative opposition members whereas most sedentary Kuwaitis are pro-government MPs, moderates and liberals. The liberals and women in the parliament are always sedentary Kuwaitis. There has never been a liberal Bedouin MP. <br /><br />The divide between the pre-oil sedentary population and Bedouins is manifested in a geographic divide. Nearly all Bedouins live in the outlying districts beyond the 6th ring road whereas 98% of the sedentary population don't live beyond the 6th ring road.
